Compensation for Harrogate pensioner after being hit by a vehicle whilst crossing the road
Our client, a pensioner from Harrogate, sustained a serious fracture of the right knee and required a knee replacement after being hit by a vehicle when crossing the road. He was struck by a Ford Transit van which had turned out of a minor road onto the road which he was crossing.
In addition to the injuries sustained, there were complications with his recovery and he developed an infection at the site of the knee replacement, requiring further surgery. As a consequence of this, our client now has reduced mobility and has also developed urological symptoms following his surgery.
Cathryn Godfrey, from our Serious Injury team in Leeds represented the client on behalf of Irwin Mitchell and commented, “the circumstances of this accident are a reminder of the need for drivers to take care and be vigilant when exiting from minor roads whereby visibility may be reduced.
Prior to the accident our client was independent and self sufficient. The long term consequences of this accident will therefore have an impact on his day to day activities, and the compensation received will go toward future care and treatment. It will also fund the assistance he now requires with household tasks due to the ongoing symptoms developed as a result of the injuries sustained.”
